A Delhi Police van that carried Aaftab Poonawalla, the accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, was attacked on Monday in Rohini, Delhi.
The video of the incident was shared by ANI on Twitter which informed that at least 2 men who claimed to be from Hindu Sena were carrying swords and attacked the police van outside the Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini.
Reports said the Delhi Police detained the two men who attacked the van.
Aaftab Poonawalla was being taken from the FSL in Rohini where the remaining sessions of the polygraph test on him took place today.
Reports further said one of the attackers told the media that they were waiting for Poonawalla to come out of the lab so that they could attack him and give justice to Shraddha who belongs to the Hindu community.
Aaftab Poonawalla allegedly strangulated his live-in girlfriend Shraddha Walkar, chopped her into 35 pieces, and stored the pieces in a refrigerator at his rented house in Mehrauli, South Delhi. He then disposed of the pieces in various locations in Delhi over the next 18 days. The incident took place in May 2021.
The brutal murder shocked the national capital and subsequently, the Delhi Police arrested the accused Poonawalla.
Reports said Aaftab and Shraddha met through a dating application. The victim worked at a call centre in Mumbai. After her family disapproved of their relationship, the couple eloped to Delhi and lived together. They faked being a married couple, reports also said.
The victim’s father later filed a police complaint with the Delhi Police after he failed to trace his daughter for weeks. Following this, the Delhi Police launched a probe and through technical surveillance traced Aaftab.
Reports further said Aaftab accepted his crime and claimed that Shraddha allegedly pressurised him to get married which led to arguments between them every now and then.
