Delhi: Notice to AAP in political ad case, order for recovery of Rs 163 crore
The Delhi government has served Aam Aadmi Party with a notice for recovery of 163.62 crore for allegedly running political advertisements in the garb of government commercials.
The Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP) recovery notice further instructed the ruling party in Delhi to pay the sum within 10 days.
The notice stated that a final opportunity was hereby given to reimburse the amount of 163,61,88,265/- (Rs One hundred and sixty three crores, one lakh, eighty eight thouand, two hundred and sixty five only) by depositing the said amount in the account details given below within 10 days of the issuing of this notice, failing which further necessary action as per law would be taken in the matter.
A source told news agency PTI that if the AAP convener fails to do so, all concomitant legal action, including attachment of the party’s properties, would be done in a timely way, as per the prior direction of the Delhi LG.

The news comes nearly a month after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena launched an investigation against the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, accusing it of running political advertisements under the cover of government marketing.
In response to the Lt Governor’s December 20 order demanding the recovery of 97 crore, the party stated that he lacks the authority to issue such orders.
The LG’s directive was dubbed a ‘new love letter’ by AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj. ‘The BJP is irritated because we have become a national party and have deposed it in the MCD. LG sahab is acting in accordance with the BJP’s directives, which is causing concern among Delhi residents. The more concerned the people of Delhi are, the happy the BJP becomes,’ Bhardwaj stated.
He had also stated that the Lt Governor’s orders would be unconstitutional in the perspective of the law.
