Around 100 Africans attack Delhi cops after 3 Nigerians detained for overstaying in Neb Sarai area
On Saturday, a large mob of 100 African nationals surrounded and clashed with a police team after they apprehended three Nigerians for illegally staying in the country. The incident took place in the Neb Sarai area of south Delhi.
According to the reports, a Narcotics Cell team went to Raju Park in the Neb Sarai area at 2:30 pm where they detained three Nigerians whose visas were expired. Meanwhile, a mob of over 100 people of African origin surrounded them and obstructed the police operation.
DCP (South) Chandan Chowdhary said in the meantime, two of the three detained managed to flee during the chaos but the police managed to catch one of them, 22-year-old Philip.
The police further said the joint team from the Narcotics Squad and the Neb Sarai Police Station again visited Raju Park at 6:30 pm and apprehended four African nationals, including a woman. The police said around 150 to 200 people of African origin again surrounded the police team and helped the detainees flee.
However, the police managed the situation and brought them to the Neb Sarai Police Station. Their deportation proceedings are underway, the police said.
The four nationals have been identified as Kene Chukwu David Williams, Igwe Emmanuel Chimezie, Aziegbe John, and Queen Godwin.
