Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh arrested

Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police on Saturday. Earlier this day, an operation was launched to track the Waris Punjab De head.

Reports said a large contingent of police has been deployed outside Amritpal’s native village Jallupur Khaira to prevent any disturbance after his arrest. Moreover, cops and paramilitary forces have sealed the village.

More than 50 police vehicles chased the Khalistani leader and his aides in an attempt to arrest them this morning after the Punjab Police traced Singh’s latest location near Shahkot.

On Saturday, mobile internet services were suspended across Punjab as the state police launched an operation to arrest Singh. The decision was taken after Amritpal Singh’s supporters were sharing videos of the cop vehicles chasing Singh’s cavalcade in the Moga district. The internet services in several areas in the state will be shut till Sunday noon.

Singh returned to India from Dubai in 2022 and has been active in Punjab for a few years. He and his supporters broke through police barricades and stormed the Ajnala Police Station in February this year.

He took charge of Waris Punjab De after its founder Deep Sindhu passed away in a car accident last year.

In February 2023, Singh remarked that Home Minister Amit Shah would witness a similar fate as the former prime minister Indira Gandhi if he launched operations to control the Khalistani movement.
