Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, that Apple has been working with suppliers to increase the production of iPhone 14 in India. The company has also decided to shorten the lag in manufacturing new iPhones from six to nine months for the previous launches.

Reports suggest that Apple could be evaluating the shipping of its upcoming iPhone 14 from India. The US based smartphone company is looking to mitigate geopolitical risks on supplies by setting up production sites outside China.

For the while, India’s iPhone capacities of shipments will have a considerable gap with China but it’s an important milestone for Apple Inc for building a non-Chinese iPhone production site.

The US-based company is gradually ramping up the production of iPhone 14 in India. Currently, the devices are being manufactured in India by three contract manufacturers- Wistron, Foxconn (Hon Hai) and Pegatron.

For the unversed, all the three Apple partners are also the part of Indian government’s production linked incentive scheme for mobile manufacturing. The companies need to produce products worth a minimum of Rs 8,000 crore each this year to earn the incentives.

Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, that the Foxconn Technology is studying the process to ship components from China and is planning to assemble the iPhone 14 in India, at its plant outside Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Foxconn and Apple want simultaneous start in India and China. However, experts suggest that isn’t realistic this year, but can become a long-term goal.

The first complete manufacturing of iPhone 14s from India is likely to be finished by October, following the initial September release. Company’s ambitious target for sale can be Diwali festival which begins from October 23, 2022.
