Jammu-Kashmir: 3 army jawans including JCO die after their vehicle falls into gorge

Three jawans, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), have died after falling into a deep gorge while patrolling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The army gave this information on Wednesday.


An Army official said the JCO and two other jawans were on routine patrolling in Machil sector. Meanwhile they fell into the gorge.

Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a tweet that during a routine operation a JCO and a team of two other jawans slipped into a deep gorge due to snowfall. The bodies of all three have been recovered.

On Wednesday, three Indian Army personnel, incliding a JCO, died in an accident while conducting a regular operational task in the forward area of Machhal Sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara.

The accident took place when a vehicle carrying one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and 2 Other Ranks (OR) officers fell into a deep gorge after skidding off the snow-laden track, according to the Army,

The Chinar corps of the Army, in a tweet, said the mortal remains of the soldiers have been retrieved.

According to reports, the three soldiers were members of the Dogra Regiment’s 14th Battalion.

Earlier in August 2022, a bus collapsed into a gorge in the Pahalgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing seven Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) soldiers and injuring 32 others returning from Amarnath Yatra duty.

In that incident, that took place between Chandanwari and Pahalgam, the bus crashed into a gorge. 7 ITBP soldiers were killed on the scene, while several more were severely injured. The crash also injured 20 ITBP soldiers and two police officers.
