Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: Arvind Kejriwal says conversion law should be made but nobody should be harassed

The Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the law should be made against the religious conversion but nobody should be wrongly harassed by the law.

Addressing a poll rally at Punjab’s Jalandhar, Kejriwal said conversions done by scaring them is wrong. The religion is a private matter and everyone has the right to worship as per their choice, he said.

Several BJP ruled states including Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have already considered anti conversion laws to regulate forcible religious conversions, while others such as Assam are also in-line to consider similar laws.

In his meeting with Punjab’s bussinessman, Kejriwal promised that the AAP would begin doorstep delivery service and Mohalla clinics, if the party wins in Punjab. The party will make 16000 clinics and renovate hospitals in Punjab, he also promised.

Like Delhi, Punjab too will get all the benefits, the Delhi chief minister said. No new tax will be imposed in Punjab after the AAP comes to power, he promised.

The AAP has confirmed Bhagwant Mann, who has been elected to the Punjab Lok Sabha seat of Sangrur for two terms in a row since 2014, as his chief ministerial face in Punjab.

In the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls, Congress had register a win on 77 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal could win only 18 seats and the AAP had emerged as the second-largest party with 20 seats.

Punjab will vote on February 20 while the counting of votes is set to take place on March 10.
