Is it a bank holiday on Pongal?
The Reserve Bank of India releases a list of bank holidays depending on the festivals being celebrated in states. Different states have their own rules regarding bank holidays.
Since Pongal is not a national festival, the banks will not be closed in all the states. The festival is mainly celebrated by Tamil people in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry. It is also known as a harvest festival.
Banks in Tamil Nadu will be closed on January 16 on the occasion of Uzhavar Thirunal. However, banks will remain open for all days in all states except Sunday.
In January, festivals like Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, Makar Sankranti, and others are celebrated. According to the bank holiday list released by the RBI, banks will remain shut for 14 days across various states in India in January.
