This year, Ganesha Chaturthi saw devotees celebrating the festival with great exuberance across India. Several videos and pictures of the celebration went viral. While some videos won hearts, others received flak on social media.

In this episode, a video is doing rounds on the internet wherein a dancer could be seen performing a Bhojpuri song at Ganpati Puja. The video also shows devotees hooting and enjoying the dancer’s performance while some are capturing it.

The video was shared by a Twitter user on the platform and the place where the incident took place in not certain. However, a section of social media assumed it to have happened in Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.

The video triggered social media outrage wherein users slammed the organiser and people present at the Ganpati puja for enjoying the obscene performance during the puja. Some also highlighted the spike in rape cases in India and held events and people as such responsible for the crime.

Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi also triggered social media bashing after a video of him grooving to the popular Bhojpuri song Lollipop Lagelu during Ganpati puja surfaced on the internet. Users slammed the actor for dancing to a Bhojpuri song rather than to a devotional song.

In another incident, Nitesh Rane, a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, slammed devotees who could be seen ‘dumping’ Ganesha idols in water and not using Conveyor belt technology.

The conveyer belt technology for Ganpati Visarjan, initiated by Congress leader Satej D Patil, took social media by storm this year.
