Bihar: 30 including 7 policemen suffer burn injuries after cylinder blast during Chhath Puja in Aurangabad
As many as 30 people including 7 policemen have sustained burn injuries due to a gas cylinder explosion in Bihar’s Aurangabad. Of those who were burnt, condition of 10 people is said to be criticial.
The accident happened at around 2:30 on the Friday-Saturday intervening night. The preparations for Chhath Puja were going on in the house of Anil Goswami in Ward No 24 of Sahebganj locality, reports said. All the members of the family were busy in making the prasad offerings. Then all of a sudden, fire broke out due to gas leak from a cylinder. After this there was a stampede in the locality. The people started extinguishing the fire. Meanwhile, the police team patrolling also reached there. As soon as the policemen poured water on the cylinder to douse the fire, it exploded.

It was a sudden explosion
The owner of the house, Anil Goswami, told the cops that his family were on the terrace at night. His wife was making prasad for Chhath puja. It was reported that there was a gas leakage. By the time he came down, the fire was already out. After a while, there was a loud explosion in the cylinder.
The injured policeman Mohammad Muazzam said that he was at night patrolling, when he receiving information of fire breaking out in ward-24. He immediately rushed to the locality and upon his arrival, he flames of fire.
In an attempt to extinguish the fire, he grabbed a water pipe hoze and the cylinder exploded with a loud bang, when he poured water on it. Muazzam is also seriously injured in this accident. All the injured were admitted to Aurangabad Sadar Hospital for treatment.
In a recent fire accident, in Jammu and Kashmir, more than 20 houses were burnt in a massive fire that broke out in Kishtwar area. Fortunately no injury was reported in the incident.
