Summers in North India are unbearable every year. But this time the heatwave conditions have intensified and reached a new peak, breaking a 38-year-old record in Rajasthan’s district. Residents were asked to stay in as the temperature in several parts of North India crossed 49 degrees Celsius on May 15.
We’ve all been there, tossing and turning in bed, battling to stay awake because your sweat has glued you to the sheets and is not ideal for a good night’s sleep.
The best way to beat the heat is to turn on your air conditioner and sleep calmly and comfortably. But, air conditioners consume a lot of energy and also raise your monthly electricity bill.

Here are some budget-friendly ideas to help you beat the scorching heat!
- Freeze your Pillow
When temperatures reach excessive levels at night, it might be difficult to sleep. One easy fix is to cover your pillow in plastic wrap and place it in the freezer for 10 minutes. The rapid freeze generates a brief cooling impact that may help in your sleep. For backup, keep extra pillows in the freezer for midnight.
- Bedroom Igloo
Place the fan in front of your bed and let the air blow into the empty duvet cover. You may now relax, read a book, chill down and even sleep in your bedroom cave.
- Chilly Room
Simply sprinkle a bed sheet with water and hang it over an open window. As a result, evaporative cooling occurs, which will help cool things down and achieve the ideal room temperature.
- Aloe Vera Popsicle or Ice Pack
Blend the gelatinous substance from the aloe vera leaf, then pour the liquid into a glass with a popsicle stick in the centre. If you have a sunburn, apply the aloe vera popsicle to the wounded area to soothe it. You can also apply ice packs or cold compresses to your wrists, neck, elbows, groin, and ankles, as well as behind your knees.
