Gujarat: 9 killed, more than 30 injured in horrific bus-car collision in Navsari
As many as 9 peope died while more than 30 are feared to be injured in a fatal accident of a SUV car and a bus in Navsari district of Gujarat on Saturday morning.
All the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital. According to media reports, the luxury bus was going from Ahmedabad to Valsad. The incident took place in Veswan village of the district.
On the Navsari national highway number 48, a bus carrying passengers back from Surat’s Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav festival rammed into a Toyota Fortuner sedan after the driver suffered a heart attack and lost control of the vehicle. He was rushed to a hospital for care, but he passed away there.
Twenty-eight passengers in the bus sustained injuries, and eight of the nine passengers in the car perished. Eleven were transported to a private hospital. The luxury bus was travelling between Surat and Valsad.
According to Navsari Superintendent of Police (SP) Rushikesh Upadhyay, the SUV was travelling in the opposite way when the accident happened close to Vesma village.
SP Rushikesh Upadhyay also said that bus passengers were from Valsad, while those riding in the SUV were citizens of Ankleshwar in the Gujarat and were returning from Valsad.
AS usual, the accident led to a traffic gridlock on the route but after the collision, the police used a crane to remove the bus from the road, and the highway’s traffic was restored to normal.
On December 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav’s opening ceremony in Ahmedabad.
Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed grief over this accident. In a social media post, he wrote in Gujarati, Shah said that the road accident in Navsari, Gujarat was heart wrenching. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. The Home Minister also extended his condolences with the bereaved families and said, may God give these families strength to bear the pain.
The local administration was giving immediate treatment to the injured and were praying for their speedy recovery, Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.
