Tamil film producer Baskaran was found murdered in Chennai on Saturday around 7 am. The 62-year-old was found stuffed inside a plastic bag and dumped in a sewer near Nerkundram, Chinmaya Nagar.
Baskaran, a resident of Ramakrishnapuram in Adambakkam, was involved in the construction business and has also financed a few films. The incident came to light after sanitation workers found a body in a plastic bag on Chinmaya Nagar-Nerkundram Road. The sanitation workers immediately informed the police about the incident.
The police have arrested the accused Ganesan at Thiruvallur Sholavaram involved in the murder of Chennai-based Industrialist and Film Financier Baskaran.
Upon receiving the information, the police immediately rushed to the spot and found the victim’s legs and hands tied, and there were injury marks on his neck and head. The police said the victim’s mouth was stuffed with a piece of cloth. The police then sent the body for post-mortem to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
After examining a missing person’s report, the police officer claimed they later determined the body to be Bhaskaran’s. According to the complaint, Baskaran left his house on Friday to attend a reception at a star hotel in Nungambakkam.
His family lodged a missing person complaint after his phone was switched off and he wasn’t reachable. The police used the GPS to find his car on the side of the road, just a few meters away from where his body was discovered.
While the body was being taken for a post-mortem, the police started examining the neighborhood CCTV footage for any suspicious activity or other evidence that would help solve the case. They are also trying to figure out what led to Bhaskaran’s murder.
Senior police authorities announced that six police teams have been set up to look into the case to catch the murderers as soon as possible.
The police officer said they discovered that the attackers withdrew the money twice from two different Vadapalani ATMs using Baskaran’s ATM card, totaling Rs 10,000. We are yet to ascertain the motive, he said.
