Chetan Sharma returns as BCCI Chief Selector, new selection committee announced
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the new Senior Selection Committee. Former pacer Chetan Sharma has again been made the chairman of the committee i.e. chief selector. Apart from him Shiv Sunder Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and Sridharan Sarath are the other four members of the committee.
After the poor performance in the last T20 World Cup held in Australia, the board sacked the then selection committee. Chetan Sharma was also the chairman of that committee. Team India was kicked out of the World Cup after losing to England by 10 wickets in the semi-finals.
600 applications were received, 11 were shortlisted
The board said in a statement released on Sunday that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) received about 600 applications. Out of these 11 were called for an interview. After the interview, the advisory committee consisting of Shashikala Nayak, Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe has recommended 5 names.
Challenges to be faced by Sharma
• Border-Gavaskar Trophy: India is hosting this bilateral series played between Australia and India. The Kangaroo team is coming on an Indian tour next month. This series will be important in terms of the World Test Championship.
• Asia Cup: Asia Cup is going to be hosted by Pakistan in the month of September. It will also be necessary to win this tournament just before the ODI World Cup.
• ODI World Cup: After the Asia Cup, there will be the ICC World Cup in the month of October-November. In such a situation, it will be a challenge before Chetan Sharma to prepare a better team.
Sharma has clinched 148 international wickets
Chetan Sharma has taken 148 international wickets in his 11-year career. He has been a part of the Indian team in 23 Tests and 65 ODIs.
Sharma was first bowler to take hat trick in World Cup
Chetan Sharma is the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the World Cup. He took a hat-trick against New Zealand in the 1987 World Cup. At the age of 16, Chetan started playing first class cricket for Haryana. He made his ODI debut in December 1983 against the West Indies.

Chetan Sharma has become the chief selector of the Indian cricket team for the second time. Two years ago, he was appointed as the chairman of the All India Selection Committee.
