BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma reveals classified information about Team India during TV sting
BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma allegedly revealed classified information pertaining selection matters for Team India, reportedly, during a sting operation conducted by a TV news channel on Tuesday.
Reports said that during the sting conducted by Zee News, Sharma allegedly revealed internal discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli while also making slandering claims about star players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.
Chetan Sharma was removed as the chief selector after Team India’s ouster from T20 World Cup in Australia but was recently reinstated.
In the sting, Sharma reportedly accused Indian cricketers of using injections to expedite recovery from injuries and return to competitive cricket despite being only partially fit.
In the video, Sharma reportedly said, that the players are ready to play even when they are only 80-85 percent fit and use injections to get match ready.
Chetan Sharma reportedly said: ‘Even if they are around 85 percent fit, they will say ‘Sir let us play’ but they are not cleared by the medical team that is where the problem lies. The players always want to play, they never refuse to play.”
He also reportedly said that the team management and himself differed over Jasprit Bumrah’s return from stress fracture to the international scene for the T20I series against Australia in September.
The former India pacer also claimed that was an ego tussle between former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and former captain Virat Kohli, however, Sharma was not available for a comment when contacted by various outlets.
The BCCI is reportedly looking into the matter as national selectors are contract-bound to not speak about such internal affairs to the media.
A PTI report quoted a senior official on the condition of anonymity as saying that BCCI chief Jay Shah will take the final call on Chetan Sharma’s future. The official however, questioned if Indian skippers, Hardik Pandya or Rohit Sharma would feel comfortable sitting in a selection meeting with Sharma, knowing now that he has reportedly spilled their internal discussions out in the open.
