CR Kesavan quits Congress due to ideological rift, says not seen any vestiges of the values that made him work for the party
After serving in the Congress party for more than two decades, CR Kesavan, a great-grandson of India’s first governor-general, C Rajagopalachari, announced his resignation on Thursday, specifying issues with the current path that the party is on.
Kesavan, in a resignation letter, addressed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, said he is resigning from the Primary Membership of the Congress Party with immediate effect and also as a Trustee of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Charitable Trust.
Kesavan, who had joined the grand old party in 2001, mentioned that he had returned to India to serve the nation leaving behind a successful career abroad.
Citing reasons for leaving the party, Kesavan said he has not seen any vestiges of the values that made him work for the party with dedication for over two decades. He further said that he refrained from participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra because he can no longer concur with what the party symbolizes, stands for, or seeks to propagate.
Dismissing speculations of joining some other party, Kesavan said he himself does not know what will unfold next. He said To set the record straight, he has not spoken to anybody and honestly does not know what will unfold next.
The former Congress leader also thanked Sonia Gandhi for the opportunities and said that he has forged cherished friendships in the party that will remain. Kesavan had served as the vice president of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development at Sriperumbudur, as a member of the Prasar Bharati Board, National Council member of the Indian Youth Congress and as a National Media Panelist
Bidding adieu to the grand old party, he said, It is time for him to chart a new path. He said he will endeavour in good faith to resolutely serve India through a political platform. It will be one where he can continue to steadfastly uphold the integrity and ideals of public life, instilled and defended by the founding fathers and mothers of our great nation and his great grandfather C Rajagopalachari, he added.
