A 13-year-old Dalit girl, who went to file a rape complaint, was allegedly kept for a whole night and beaten up with belts at a police station in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur city.

A 13-year-old Dalit rape survivor was allegedly kept at a police station for the whole night and beaten up while her parents were waiting outside the police station.

The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was kicked and beaten up with belts at the police station and two policewomen were also pressurizing her daughter to change her statement.

The girl went out to play on August 27 but did not return home. She came back home after three days on August 30 and informed her parents that she was forcibly taken by Babu Khan to his house where he allegedly raped her for three days, the victim’s mother claimed.

Three have been suspended so far in the incident which allegedly took place on August 30. The accused Babu Khan was arrested on September 3 under the Schedule caste and Schedule Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Madhya Pradesh police told the PTI on Thursday.

The SHO (Kotwali) Anoop Yadav, Sub-inspector Mohini Sharma and Assistant Sub-inspector Gurudutt Shesha have been suspended for confining the victim at the police station, Chhatarpur SP Sachin Sharma said.

Three days after the incident, the police registered a rape case against the accused but did not include the charge of kidnapping.

The girl’s age has been shown as 17 years in the FIR and it does not mention the charges of kidnapping.

A case has been filed into the matter after a complaint was filed by the district child welfare committee (CWC).

Afsar Jahan, a CWC member, claimed that the police is trying to save the culprit and to get the victim change her story. While Saurabh Bhatnagar, another CWC member, said the CWC asked police for documents about her age after learning that her age was shown as 17 years instead of 13.
