The process of elections for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee members of Delhi has begun at the Civic Centre of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. First of all 10 nominated members were sworn in. AAP leaders protested against it and raised slogans. On the other hand, the BJP leader also raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Meanwhile, BJP MP Hansraj Hans claimed that the mayor would be from the BJP.

AAP has fielded Shelly Oberoi and BJP has fielded Rekha Gupta for the post of mayor. In such a situation, it is certain that the national capital will get a woman mayor. The first meeting of the House after the MCD elections was held on January 6, but the election of the mayor could not be held due to the uproar in the house. Today again the same situation seems to be happening but the police security has been beefed up so as to conduct the elections smoothly.

AAP leader Mukesh Goyal said that the constitutional way is to first administer the oath to the elected councilors, then to the nominated councillors. but that did not happen. BJP leader Shikha Rai said that the proceedings of the House will start from where it was left.

Firstly, the nominated councilor Vinod then Laxman was administered oath in the House. After this oath was administered to Mukesh Mann, Sunil Chauhan, Rajkumar Bhatia, Sanjay Tyagi. After Manoj Kumar Jain, Rohtash Kumar, Shweta Kamal Khatri, the oath-taking of the councilors who won the election from ward number one started.

First year the post of Mayor is reserved for women

Elections to the post of Mayor in Delhi are held for 5 single year terms on the basis of rotation. The first year is reserved for women. The second year is reserved for the open category, the third year for the reserved category and the remaining two years are again reserved for the open category. In this way Delhi will get a woman mayor this year.

AAP has majority

AAP’s candidate for Deputy Mayor is Aale Mohammad Iqbal and BJP’s candidate is Kamal Bagdi. Ale Mohammad is the son of Shoaib Iqbal, MLA from Matia Mahal. 273 members will vote in the Mayor’s election. A figure of 133 is needed for a majority. AAP has 134 councillors. Apart from this, there are also 3 Rajya Sabha MPs. In this election, 250 councillors along with 10 MPs (7 Lok Sabha MPs and 3 Rajya Sabha MPs), 13 assembly members will vote.
