Today is the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month. Today is Ekadanta Sankashti Chaturthi fast. On this day, by worshiping Lord Ganesha and reciting Ekadant Sankashti Chaturthi’s fasting story, the sorrow, suffering, sin, and trouble are removed. It is believed by the people that with the blessings of Lord Ganesha, the wishes are fulfilled.
Worshiping the moon during the night is mandatory during the Sankashti Chaturthi fast. Without this Sankashti Chaturthi, the fast is not completed. However, watching the moon in Vinayaka Chaturthi fast is also prohibited as there is a fear of false stigma about it.
Sankashti Chaturthi is a day celebrated every year on May 19. This day is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Sankashta Chaturthi is observed on the Chaturthi of Vadya Paksha of every Marathi month. The tradition of worshiping Lord Ganesha by fasting all day long has been going on since time immemorial. Sankashta Chaturthi is fasted to gain eternal devotion to Ganesha. Sankashta Chaturthi can be fasted by anyone.
Today, on Thursday, Lord Vishnu and Dev Guru Brihaspati are worshipped. It is believed that worshiping both of them creates a possibility of auspicious work happening in the house. If there is any delay in marriage, then those people observe fast on this day and worship Lord Vishnu. Also, the banana plant is worshipped because it is believed to be the abode of Shri Hari Vishnu.
