Facebook prevents man from attempting suicide in Uttar Pradesh, know how

The rescue of the man was made possible due to the agreement between Meta and Uttar Pradesh which was part of an initiative started in March last year.

A story has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, where a man tried to end his life while he was living from his Facebook account. However, his plans to take his own life were foiled as Meta alerted the police about what was happening.

The police, after learning about the what was happening, rushed to the man’s residence in order to stop him from turning to suicide. As per reports, the man has been identified as Abhay Shukla who is a resident of Kannauj.

The Ghaziabad police were informed and alerted about the suicidal ideation of the man through mail. It was reported that the police received the email late at night on their social media centre of police headquarters. The Police headquarters’ social media team passed the information down to Ghaziabad police.

After learning about what was happening, the local SHO took prompt actions and rushed to find the location of the Shukla who was live streaming his suicide. The police, after many difficulties, were able to trace the residence of the man and reached him before he could take a drastic action.

According to reports, Abhay Shukla had intended to end his life after recently facing a huge financial loss where he lost 90,000 Rs. He originally hails from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, suggest reports.

Reports also suggest that the police, after preventing Shukla’s suicide, also provided counselling in presence of his family members.

Another incident

Most recently, another case of suicide came to light from Rajasthan Kota where a 22-year-old, who was preparing for the NEET entrance exam, turned to suicide. The reason behind the student’s attempt hasn’t been given out, however, the police suspect that man had been under a lot of pressure and stress from a long time, owing to which he took such a drastic step.
