FIFA 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo performs better when criticised, says Portugal team-mate

Portugal football team captain Cristiano Ronaldo started his campaign on the right foot as the star striker became the first player to ever score in 5 different World Cup Tournaments, after winning and scoring a penalty against Ghana in the first match of Portugal’s first World Cup Campaign. The Portugal captain was praised by his fellow countryman and former Manchester United teammate for performing better while being criticised.

The Portuguese midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has come out in support of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as he stated in a press conference that he believes that Ronaldo works under that criticism from everyone and added that and urged the critics to keep at it as it gets the best of Ronaldo.

The Manchester United Midfielder also stated that it was a dream come true to play with Ronaldo in the national team and in the club and also termed his experience as amazing. He further added that he still shares the space with him in the national team and said that the main aim for the team is to perform well and consistently in the tournament and get the result.

Ronaldo’s controversy and Piers Morgan interview

Cristiano Ronaldo recently gave an interview to journalist Piers Morgan, for which he faced a lot of flak in the footballing world. The Portuguese star in his interview launched an attack on the administration of the English club Manchester United. Ronaldo didn’t spare even the owner and the former and the current manager of the English side as he questioned their approach.

Ronaldo while launching an attack on Manchester United, which was at the time his current club, he didn’t shy away from questioning former footballers such as Wayne Rooney for allegedly using his name to stay relevant. The star claimed that his former teammate was envious of him, which is the reason he gets criticized.

Manchester United’s decision after Ronaldo’s interview

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United became the much-anticipated revival for the red devils after failing to deliver in the prior seasons. However, after two spells with Manchester United, the interview with Pierse Morgan became the threshold which triggered Manchester United to break ties with their star striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Club and the star player mutually agreed that it would be best for Ronaldo to leave the club with immediate effect on November 22.

Portugal football team led by Cristiano Ronaldo started their campaign on an ideal note by winning against Ghana which resulted in 3-2 win. Ronaldo and company will face Uruguay and South Korea in the upcoming matches in hopes to top the their group and qualify for the round of 16 knock-outs.
