2 die after fire breaks out at old age home in Delhi’s Greater Kailash
At least two women died and 13 others were rescued after a fire broke out at a senior citizen care home in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash II area on Sunday. The incident took place at around 5:15 am at Antara Care for Seniors. Four fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
According to the reports, the fire was completely controlled by 7 pm. A team of police officials and a fire brigade reached the scene and started the rescue operation. According to officials, both victims were already dead by the time fire was extinguished.
The fire took place on the third floor of the E block building. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Chandan Chowdhary, Delhi Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), said that one of the 13 people who were rescued is critically injured and has been admitted to Saket’s Max Hospital, while 12 others were shifted to another branch in Okhla of Antara Care. Among those rescued are senior citizens and their attendants, said Chowdhary.
Chowdhary said they are checking the NOC of the care home.
