Ganesha Chaturthi 2022: From adorning idol with 66 kg of gold and 295 kg of silver to installing tallest 38-foot idol, here's how Maharashtrians are celebrating Ganeshotsav

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the auspicious festivals celebrated with great zeal and pomp in Maharashtra. Devotees bring Ganesha’s idol home as he is believed to be the god of wealth, prosperity, and the removal of all hurdles. Every year, devotees uniquely celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi.


This year, Gowd Saraswat Brahman (GSB) Seva Mandal adorned Lord Ganesha’s idol installed in Mumbai’s Matunga with 66 kg of 22-carat gold and 295 kg of silver. Amit Pai, the trustee of GSB Seva Mandal, said the devotees donated the jewellery used for the Ganesha idol. GSM Pandal has broken all previous records by flaunting the costliest set-up in Mumbai. The cost of the Ganesha idol is Rs 316.50 crore this year.

Apart from this, various other organizations also installed Lord Ganesha’s idol in Maharashtra, breaking all records. The state’s tallest 38-foot Lord Ganesha idol is set up in a Parashuram avatar at 11 Khetwadi Lane in South Mumbai.

Lalbaugcha Raja, in Laulbaug, has a mesmerizing form of over 18 feet, enthralling devotees who throng here 24 hours daily for darshan. This year’s theme is the Ayodhya Ram temple.

For Ganeshotsav, the Vile Parle Police Station in Mumbai welcomed Police Bappa, an idol of Lord Ganesh dressed in a police uniform. The objective is to spread awareness related to crime, traffic rules, and particularly, cyber fraud.

In Mumbai, BMC made 162 artificial ponds and 73 natural immersion sites for idol immersion. Ramakant Biradar, Assistant Municipal Corporation said all necessary arrangements have been made for the idol immersion. Lifeguards are deployed at the immersion sites.

An artist of the Satara district made a mechanical Ganesha idol that will rise and bless devotees if its feet are touched. In the video, it can be seen a man bending forward to touch the idol’s feet. The idol then rises and moves its right hand forward to bless the man.
