Uttar Pradesh: Ganga-Yamuna water level rises in Prayagraj, IMD issues heavy rain warning

Amid the sudden change in weather and continuously raining in the isolated areas, the water level of Uttar Pradesh's River Ganga and River Yamuna on Wednesday rose and overflowed. It has been reported that the rivers submerging the low-lying areas nearby areas at Sangam Ghat. Experts also suggested that there is a high chance that the water level might increase further.

Amid the sudden change in weather and continuously raining in the isolated areas, the water level of Uttar Pradesh’s River Ganga and River Yamuna on Wednesday rose and overflowed. It has been reported that the rivers submerging the low-lying areas nearby areas at Sangam Ghat. Experts also suggested that there is a high chance that the water level might increase further.

In order to provide safety to the people, the administration issued a warning, asking people not to take bath near or at the Ghats of Sangam beach.

A pilgrim named Rajesh Kumar who was staying in warned areas told the media that they are shifting to another end of the dam due to the sudden increase in water level. He said, the Ganga is in a stable situation, the water level is not overflowing on danger level but there are expectations things would change all of sudden, Rajesh Kumar added.

A priest at the Ghat also said that the water level started increasing on Monday when a huge amount of water was released from Delhi released water from the Yamuna on Sunday night. He further added that the water level has reduced to some extent on the last night when they decided to make a shift. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the current water level rose somewhere about approximately to 8.5 ft, which is above normal.

Weather Department on Tuesday informed that some of in Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness haeavy rainfall with thunderstorms in upcoming days. However, it will not impact the temperature that much.

IMD also suggested that isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning is expected in east Uttar Pradesh on 19th and 20th (Friday and Saturday) and over West Uttar Pradesh on 20th August 2022 (Saturday).
