Google marked India’s 74th Republic Day by displaying a custom doodle of the Republic Day parade on the search engine’s homepage.

The doodle, a handmade illustration by artist Parth Kothekar, displays various elements India’s annual Republic Day parade including a marching contingent of the Central Reserve Police Force, motorcycle riders at the iconic India Gate and the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Parth Kothekar- the Ahmedabad-based artist who intricately handcrafted the original illustration- said it took him over four days to complete the work.

Kothekar said he couldn’t believe when he found out that his work had been selected by Google. The artist said he aimed to display India’s diversity in his artwork so viewers across the world could get a peek into the complexity of the country.

India declared itself a sovereign, democratic, and republic state on January 26, 1950, two months after the Constituent Assembly drafted the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949.

India marks this year’s Republic Day by celebrating its G20 presidency.

President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the 74th Republic Day.

In her message to the nation, President Murmu extendded her hearty greetings to all the Indians living in the country and abroad. She said that when we celebrate Republic Day, we celebrate what we have achieved together as a nation.

The President hailed India’s G20 presidency, terming it as an opportunity to promote democracy and multilateralism.

This year, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is the chief guest for the occasion. The first parade is set to begin at 10:30 am today.
