A senior official said the accused, identified as 30-year-old Santosh Kumar Gupta alias Prince, assaulted his father, Murli Dhar Gupta (62), killing him on the spot and then chopped up his body into pieces to fit it into a suitcase and dispose it off. The horrific incident took place in Suraj Kund colony under Tiwaripur police station limits late on Saturday night.

Prashant Gupta, another son of the victim, filed a complaint against his brother, following which an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the IPC and the accused was arrested, the official said.

Giving details, the official said that Santosh hit his father over the head with a hammer when they were alone at home, instantly killing him. He then chopped the victim’s body into several pieces, stored them in a suitcase he took from his brother’s room and hid it in the street behind the house.

However, the suitcase was discovered by his brother who then informed the police, leading to the culprit’s arrest, he said, adding that initial investigation suggests that fallout from a family property dispute seems to be the motive behind the gruesome murder.

Earlier, a similar case of a grisly murder was reported from a village in Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir where a 30-year-old woman was reportedly murdered and chopped to pieces.

The pieces of the victim’s body were dumped by the accused, who has been arrested, across various areas in the district.

According to the police, the victim’s brother Tanveer Ahmad Khan had filed a missing report on March 7, wherein he said that his sister had left for computer coaching classes the previous day (March 7) but hasn’t returned home in Soibugh area of Budgam district in central Kashmir.

They said that after initial investigation, several suspects including the accused, Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Aziz Wani of Mohanpora, Budgam—a carpenter by profession—was taken in custody and confessed to the crime after being interrogated.

Giving details about the grisly murder, a senior official said that the 45-year-old accused—a father of two—killed the woman, chopped her into pieces and buried them at different locations, including near a railway bridge at Budgam Railway Station.
