Gujarat: 8-year-old girl dies after iron gate falls on her at government school in Dahod, principal suspended
In a shocking incident, an 8-year-old girl died on Friday after an iron gate of a government school in Gujarat’s Dahod district fell on her. The incident happened on December 20 in Rampura village.
According to the reports, the mishap took place at a primary school when a heavy iron gate on the school compound came off the hinges and fell on her when she was playing near it.
The district primary education officer Mayur Parekh said the victim Ashmita Mohaniya sustained head injuries and was rushed to the private hospital in Dahod city for primary treatment. He further said Mohaniya was later shifted to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital where she died during the treatment.

Dahod rural police station has registered a case of accidental death. The exact reason why and how the gate fell will be ascertained after further investigation, the police said.
Reportedly, the school’s principal was suspended with immediate effect.
Earlier in September, an 11-year-old school girl died after the iron gate of a BSES office in northeast Delhi fell on her while she was returning home from a Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run school.
The police official said the place where the mishap took place is theft-prone, and the looting of iron gates, hinges, grilles, frames and other metal items is regularly reported. The official further said as per the preliminary reports, some people may have tried to steal the gate or parts of the gate, thereby making it unstable.
