In a shocking incident, a bike-borne couple allegedly thrashed a man in Gurugram after he refused to give them Rs 50. After assaulting him, the couple stole Rs 20,000 from his wallet. The incident happened on Friday.

Police arrested the couple on Saturday based on the complaint of the victim and were produced before a local court and sent to jail on Sunday. According to the SHO, the two accused have been identified as Sumit (28) and Anshu (19). They snatched the wallet because they needed money to buy drugs for Sumit, who is a drug addict, an officer said.

The man, identified as Babulal, a resident of Bhawani Enclave, said in a complaint that he was sitting with his two friends near the CRPF building when the bike stopped in front of them and asked him to give them Rs 50, which he refused to give.

In a fit of rage, they picked up stones and started throwing at him, he said. The couple then snatched his wallet from his back pocket which had Rs 20,000 cash and fled the spot, alleged Babulal. His friends immediately took him to the government hospital in Sector 10 after he received multiple injuries.

Investigation officer sub-inspector Ashok Kumar said the police teams reached the spot after receiving the information about the incident. He said the police are investigating the matter.

The police have registered an FIR against under Sections 379-B (snatching, whoever, with the intention to commit theft, suddenly or quickly or forcibly seizes or secures or grabs or takes away from any person) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 9 police station.
