Hanuman Chalisa row: Maharashtra MP-MLA couple says will approach PM against state government's ill-treatment
Maharashtra’s independent MLA Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana on Monday opened up about the Maharashtra authority’s ill-treatment in jail. They will approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to raise the issue of their alleged ill-treatment by Maharashtra authorities when the couple was in jail recently, the jailed couple said.
Denying allegations that they committed contempt of court by speaking to the media, Ranas told the reporters that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who back-stabbed the BJP, should not talk and teach Ranas about principles.
The controversy over playing Hanuman Chalisa during Azaan had reached Delhi last week and the home ministry has asked the Maharashtra government to submit a factual report after Amravati MP alleged she was ill-treated at a police station.
MP Navneet Rana along with her husband Ravi Rana were arrested on April 23 for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups.
While granting bail to the couple on May 4, the special MP-MLA court had directed the couple not to commit a similar offence while on bail, and not to address the press on any subject related to the case.
Mumbai police had arrested them after they announced that they would recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Udhav Thackeray’s private residence.
Following their threat, the Shive Sena workers got angered which led to tension between the groups and political parties.
Soon after releasing from jail on May 5, Navneet Rana was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai and later discharged on Sunday. She had complaints of high blood pressure, body ache and spondylitis, her lawyer said.
