Talking to the news agency ANI, Rawat said though the decision (of Congress in the state assembly elections) will be taken by the Congress President, but in the present circumstances, the election will be fought with the Chief Minister’s cabinet under the Pradesh Congress Committee, whose chief Sidhu is very popular. Rawat also said the decision to make Charanjit Singh Channi the next CM of Punjab was unanimous.

He said this decision was taken yesterday. The party was just waiting to meet the governor. There was unanimity in the name of Channi. The party leaders will try that to convince Captain Amarinder Singh to be present at the swearing-in but it depends on him.

Congress MLA Charanjit Singh Channi will take the oath as the new Chief Minister of Punjab on Monday at 11 am on Monday.

Channi replaced Captain Amarinder Singh, who resigned from the post of CM on Saturday after his long differences with Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. This development has come at a time when assembly elections are due in Punjab in the year 2022, just a few months later.

In other India news, the Bharatiya Janata Party targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for picking up Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM candidate.
