Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, who was Miss Universe 2021, crowned R’Bonnie Gabriel of the United States as the new Miss Universe 2022. During this, she looked very emotional. Sandhu tried hard to hold back her tears when she was seen walking on the stage one last time as the Miss Universe 2021.

Dressed in a beautiful black gown, when Sandhu reached the stage, she was given a grand welcome and a standing ovation. The contestants clapped enthusiastically for the Indian beauty. Sandhu wore had Sushmita Sen’s 1994 pageant-winner’s moment digitally designed on the back.

When the audience waved to her, Sandhu was noticed doing Namaste with folded hands. During this, tears rolled down her cheeks. Sandhu was even seen stumbling while walking, however, she regained her balance in no time. A video of the emotional moment has been posted on Twitter from the official account of Miss Universe. The caption read, ‘Hold back your tears as Harnaaz Kaur takes the stage for the last time as Miss Universe.’

A short voiceover was also played when she came on stage, which said ‘I was 17 years old when I came on the first stage. Since then it was my goal to become Miss Universe. In a message to Miss Universe 2022, Harnaaz Sandhu said, ‘Remember to live this year to the fullest, because tomorrow no one knows.’

For the unversed, R’Bonnie Gabriel of the United States was crowned Miss Universe 2022, with Amanda Dudamel of Venezuela as the first runner-up and Andrea Martinez of the Dominican Republic as the second runner-up last night.

For the ones unaware, Harnaaz Sandhu brought back the title of Miss Universe to India in 2021 after almost two decades. Before Harnaaz Sandhu, only two Indians had won the Miss Universe title – Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.
