The Hindu leader Acharya Dharmendra, famous for his fiery speeches, died on Monday in Jaipur after suffering from an intestinal ailment. He was admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where he breathed his last.

Reports state that he was brought to the hospital last month due to his worsening condition and that he was undergoing treatment. He was 80.

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, expressed his condolences. His tweet read, The death of Shrimad Panchkhand Peethadheeshwar Acharya Dharmendra ji is an irreparable loss for Sanatan Dharma.

He further wrote that the whole life of Acharya Dharmendra ji was devoted to Sanatan Hindu Dharam. The contribution of Acharya ji to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, the cow protection movement was unforgettable. His death is an irreparable loss to society. Praying to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed soul at his feet and give strength to his family, well-wishers and devotees to bear this loss, he added.

He was born on January 9, 1942, in Malvada, Gujarat. Acharya Dharmendra, Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Kalyan Singh, and Uma Bharti were considered accused in the Babri demolition case.

Acharya Dharmendra, son of Mahatma Ramchandra Veer Maharaj, was an active member in the Ram Janbhoomi temple movement. He devoted his whole life to the progress of Hindi, Hindutva and Hindustan. He even once fasted for 52 days for the welfare of cows.

Acharya founded the Vajraang newspaper when he was just 13 years old. He has served on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Central Guidance Board. He was in the news for a while after making controversial comments about Mahatma Gandhi.
