Coronavirus infections are causing concern once again as Covid-19 cases in India surpassed 7,000 for the first time on Thursday, June 8, since March 1. The number of fresh cases in India jumped nearly 40 percent in the last 24 hours. India reported 7,240 new Covid-19 cases, which is the highest jump in daily infections in the last 3 months. The country logged 5,233 Covid-19 infections on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, the daily positivity rate in the country was recorded to be 1.31 percent, while the weekly positivity rate stood at 1.31 percent. India has reported over 39,400 new cases in the month of June, with over 20,000 new infections reported only this week.
The active cases in the country stood at 32,498. The country also recorded eight new fatalities in the last 24 hours.
Statewise Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours
Maharashtra reported 2,701 new coronavirus cases, the highest number in over four months, however, no fatalities were reported. In Mumbai alone, 1,765 cases were reported.
Delhi logged 564 new Covid cases on Wednesday, the highest since May 15.
Tamil Nadu logged 195 new infections.
Telangana reported 116 fresh cases.
Gujarat reported 111 new cases.
Jammu and Kashmir logged 11 new infections.
Madhya Pradesh saw 39 new cases.
Chhattisgarh reported 9 new infections.
Kerala reported 2,271 new cases. In just one week, the southern state has reported 10, 805 new infections.
The National Vaccination Drive has administered 15.4 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. Nearly 4 lakh of these were booster doses. In the last 24 hours, over 3 lakh children aged 12 to 14 received their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.
