India reports over 20k fresh Covid-19 cases, 49 fatalities in a single day, active cases rise to 1.43 lakh

The country has achieved a milestone today by administering over 2 billion crores Covid-19 vaccine doses.

After a sigh of relief from rising Covid-19 cases in the country over the last few months, the cases have again risen at a rapid rate. India reported 20,528 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total cases to 4,37,50,599.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, the daily positivity rate in the country was recorded at 5.23 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was at 4.55 percent. The ministry reported that the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.47 percent, while active cases make up 0.33 percent of all infections.

The country also recorded 49 new fatalities, taking the death toll to 5,25,709. The active cases in the country have risen to 1,43,449. As per the data, there has been an increase of 2,689 cases in the span of 24 hours.

The 49 new fatalities include 17 from Kerala, eight from Maharashtra, six from West Bengal, three each from Karnataka and Punjab, two each from Assam, Delhi, Jharkhand and one each from Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tripura and Uttarakhand.

As the cases are on a rise, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urges people to take the precautionary dose for Covid.

According to the Health Ministry, only 10 percent of people have taken precautionary doses for Covid. He also announced that the precautionary doses will be free of cost in Delhi and soon will be administered at Mohalla Clinics.

Delhi CM has also appealed to the parents to get their children vaccinated against the contagious virus with the second dose adding that the vaccines will be arranged in schools.
