India’s UN ambassador Ruchira Khamboj says India shouldn’t need to be told what to do on Democracy

Khamboj stated that India doesn’t need to be told what to do about democracy and further added that India is the most ancient civilization in the world and the democracy has been deeply rooted into the country history which can be traced back to 2500 years.

India assumed the Presidency of the 15-nation UN Security Counsel for December on Thursday, after which the Indian UN envoy Ruchira Khamboj responded to a question and stated that India does not need to be told what to do on democracy after. Khamboj, in response to the question, also added that India holds the world’s largest democratic exercise also added that everyone is free to say what they please and suggested that is how India functions.

India on Thursday assumed the presidency of the 15-nation UN security council for the month of December in which the Indian diplomats will host signature events on the topic of countering terrorism and reformed multilateralism. India’s ambassador Ruchira Khamboj is also India’s first permanent representative woman to the UN.

Khamboj delivered her address from the President’s seat at the horse-shoe table at the united nations meet. After her address, she was questioned about India’s freedom of the press in India to which, Khamboj replied that India doesn’t need to be told what to do about democracy and further added that India is the most ancient civilization in the world and added that democracy has been deeply rooted into the country’s history which can be traced back to 2500 years.

She further added that India was always a democracy and added that contemporary India also has the instruments to safeguard democracy. She added that executive, judiciary and the fourth estate and the vibrant social media have aided in safeguarding the democracy of the country.

India’s UN consul also added that India is the world’s largest democracy and expounded that every five years the country holds the world’s largest democratic exercise by holding an election. In her response, she also claimed that everyone in the country is free to say what they wish and please and further attributed it to how the functioning of the country.

Khamboj also highlighted that the country is undergoing rampant reform and changes and also praised the trajectory. She added that she isn’t the only one saying this as many other also share the same beliefs.
