IPL Auction 2023: From Sam Curran to Cameron Green, checkout the big buys of this edition
The Indian Premier League 2023 auction took place on Friday at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi. English all-rounder Sam Curran turned out to be the most expensive player so far winning a bid of Rs. 18.75 crore for Punjab Kings. Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green was the 2nd costliest with a Rs 17.50 crore price tag and was bought by Mumbai Indians.
For the unversed, Every franchise has a cap of 25 players, including 8 overseas cricketers. After the player retention and transfer window 87 slots are up for grabs, out of which, up to 30 can be foreigners. After 991 cricketers from all corners of the world registered for the IPL auction, the list was cut short to 405, which includes 273 Indian players.
Punjab Kings bought Sam Curran for Rs 18 crore 50 lakh
There was a tough fight between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings on England all-rounder player Sam Curran. In the end, Punjab made a big bid of 18 crore 50 lakhs, after which Mumbai also accepted defeat, making it the biggest purchase of IPL Auction 2023. With this CSK’s Sam Curran will now play for Punjab Kings.
Mumbai Indian bought Cameron Green for Rs 17 Crore 50 Lakh
Delhi Capitals also showed a lot of interest for Australian veteran Cameron Green. However, Mumbai Indians continuously went on increasing the amount as everyone also noticed Mumbai would go to great lengths to get Cameron Green. And eventually Delhi also gave up and Green went to Mumbai Indians with a bid of Rs 17 crore 50 lakhs.
Other big buys at IPL Auction 2023
Hyderabad bought Harry Brook for 13.25 million. Kavya Maran did not leave the bid on Harry Brook, she kept increasing his price continuously and in the end the other team had to give up. Hyderabad also broke bank for Mayank Agarwal and bought him for 8. 25 crores. On the other hand, veteran Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane was bought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of Rs 50 lakhs.
West Indies all-rounder player Jason Holder Jason Holder has been bought by Rajasthan Royals 5 Crore 75 Lakh. There was also competition between many teams for this veteran, but at the end Rajasthan won. On the other hand, Sikandar Raja of Zimbabwe was bought by Punjab Kings. Sikandar Raza was roped in by PBKS with an amount of Rs 50 lakh Odean Smith has also been sold to Gujarat Titans for Rs 50 Lakhs.
