The first match was played on Wednesday in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi National Stadium. While the match may have turned out to be a nail biting one in the last 4 overs, Indian opener Shubhman Gill gave every reason to stand and clap for the 23-year-old.
Gill, who first made his Test debut for India, made a mark in the T20 format, making his latest debut in international cricket. After thrashing Sri Lankan bowlers in the T20 and ODI format. Now Shubhman Gill is punishing the black caps. The Indian opener played since the first over and made and broke several records till he was dismissed in the last over’s third ball.
First, Gill became the youngest individual to score a double century in international cricket. He has also become the highest run scorer against New Zealand, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He also broke Virat Kohli and and Shikhar Dhawan records of 1000 runs. As they took 24 innings to complete 1,000 runs and Gill achieved the feat in just 19 ODI innings. He also registered his name in the list of Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who have scored double centuries in ODIs.

Soon after skipper Rohit Sharma praised the Indian opener during the post match presentation, all the 3 double centurions Shubhman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan were in conversation over 200 runs in One Day Internationals. The fun conversation started with skipper and Kishan welcoming Gill in the 200 runs club.
Later Rohit asked Gill about his experience in the first India vs New Zealand ODI match, as wickets were falling at regular intervals but Gill had his mind at the right place and kept scoring runs. Gill, who was visibly happy said that he saw the game as an opportunity to score and play long. He also added that as wicket were falling like card, Gill went to score big as bowler had to be in pressure too.
