Calling a hatemonger, several student groups of Jamia Millia Islamia on Thursday staged a protest against senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar and the university administration. He was invited by the university to participate in the event Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery.
It was a joint protest of Fraternity Movement, Students Islamic Organisation of India, All India Students Association, All India Revolutionary Students Organisation, Campus Front of India and Dayar-e-Shauq Student Charter.
Talking to media personnel, Jamia students alleged that Indresh Kumar was allegedly guiding Rashtriya Muslim Morcha. But he has made several comments against Muslims. He has an Islam phobia. They can’t allow such a person to come to Jamia. Those who were against the Muslims are being invited, and those who are against the Jamia are being invited. He was the accused in many communal riots-related cases.
Dozens of students were gathered outside gate number seven of the campus. All India Students Association (AISA) activist Shoaib said that the university administration must stop giving the space of a democratic university like Jamia to hatemongers.
Launching a scathing attack against the RSS, AISA said that Indresh Kumar, who has repeated the hate rhetoric of RSS at every step, calling CAA protestors ‘traitors’, advocating for a ‘uniform civil code’, calling the consumption of meat a ‘sin’ amongst other things, should not be allowed in Jamia.
This is not the first time that Jamia students have raised questions against RSS involvement on campus. The students also staged a protest against Indresh Kumar in 2017 when he was invited to an Iftar party by the university administration.
