Jammu and Kashmir: Army officer, JCO martyred in accidental grenade blast at LoC in Mendhar
An army officer and JCO were martyred in an accidental grenade blast that occurred in the Mendhar sector of the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night. In the incident, four others have also sustained injuries.
According to the officials, the blast occurred when the soldiers were performing their duties along the Line of Control in the Mendhar sector. This resulted in injuries to six army personnel, including Captain Anand and Nb Sub Bhagwan Singh who lost their lives in an accidental grenade blast.
Soon after the blast, the injured were airlifted to Udhampur where two army personnel succumbed to injuries during their treatment.
Captain Anand hailed from KN Jha Lane in Bhagalpur district in Bihar and Nb Sub Bhagwan Singh was a resident of Pokhar Bhitta village in Ambedkar Nagar district.
Colonel Anand on the martyring of the two soldiers said that GOC White Knight Corps and all Ranks salute the brave hearts for their supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and the nation shall forever remain indebted to the brave hearts for their supreme sacrifice.
Earlier in the day, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the CRPF was killed in a terrorist attack in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A police official reported that at around 2:15 pm, terrorists opened fire at a checkpoint manned by the CRPF and the police at the Gangoo crossing area of Pulwama.
Vinod Kumar, an ASI for the CRPF, was reportedly critically injured in the attack. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Mushtaq Ahmad, an assistant sub-inspector with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, was martyred and two other officers were injured on Tuesday when terrorists stormed a police checkpoint in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar area.
Attacks have occurred as security forces are on high alert due to the ongoing Amarnath yatra. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed for the smooth functioning of the yatra.
