JDU leader, aide gunned down in Bihar's Samastipur
A local Janata Dal United (JDU) leader and his aide were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Samastipur district of Bihar on Monday, police said.
A senior police official said that the deceased identified as, JDU leader Surendra Prasad Singh and his aide Satya Narayan Singh, came under attack from the gunmen who intercepted them while they were on their way to the Surendra’s brick kiln at his native village in Virsahia ward number 7. The local leader was also a former Mukhiya (village head), he said.
The official said that Surendra Prasad Singh was killed on the spot, while Satya Narayan Singh was referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries enroute.
The official further said that a case has been registered in this regard and investigation is underway to determine the cause behind the assassination, adding that the local police have recovered a number of cartridges from the crime scene.

A report quoting Samastipur Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari said that an FIR has been registered and police are conducting raids to nab the accused.
Following the killing, locals blocked the blocked Samastipur-Rosera road for four hours by placing burning tyres on the path, demanding justice for the slain leader.
In related news Janata Dal United (JDU) Parliamentary Board Chairperson, Upendra Kushwaha on Monday severed ties with the party after the recent flareup in ties with JDU supremo and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
In a presser organized to make the announced, the former JDU leader also revealed he was forming a new party—Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal.
Kushwaha told reporters that the decision to form the Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal was taken unanimously and he has been named as its national president. He said the party will carry forward the legacy of Karpoori Thakur and also actively work towards rejecting the agreement made with RJD.
