Kanpur accident: 27 pilgrims killed, several others injured after tractor trolley falls into pond
At least 27 people were killed and several others were injured after a tractor trolley carrying 50 pilgrims overturned and fell into the pond in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Saturday late evening. As per the reports, the tractor trolley was returning from Unnao after attending a mundan ceremony at the Chandrika Devi Temple in Fatehpur.
Immediately after the accident, the locals rushed to the spot and informed the police about the same. The police officials and ambulance reached the accident site and rescued the people.
Visuals of the incident show locals gathered at the site and helping the officials in the rescue operation. The injured were quickly rushed to the Kanpur Hallet Hospital.
Kanpur District Magistrate Vishak G Iyer speaking on the matter said the injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital and further investigation is underway.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences over the incident.
Expressing her grief, President Murmu tweeted Deeply anguished by the news of the death of many people in a road accident in Kanpur. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this accident. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery, the tweet read.
Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of kin of all deceased and Rs 50,000 to all those injured. PMO also expressed his condolences over the accident and wrote, Distressed by the tractor-trolley mishap in Kanpur. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. Prayers with the injured. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected.
UP CM Yogi also announced Rs 2 lakhs of compensation to the families of all deceased. Yogi also asked the District Magistrate and other senior officers to reach the spot immediately and conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing and make arrangements for proper treatment of the injured.
He added, the loss of life in this accident is very sad. My condolences are with the bereaved family. Praying to Lord Shri Ram to grant the departed souls a place at his feet and the families of the dead to bear this unfathomable loss.
Not only this, but UP CM also warned people to not use tractor trolleys as transport vehicles. He said people should use tractors for freight and agricultural work while focusing on the preciousness of life.
