It can be gauged from the fact that the employees who came to connect the electricity connections were garlanded, walnuts and almonds were offered on the transformer. Not only this, in enthusiasm the youth of the village started dancing in front of the power transformer.

All the villages in Anantnag of South Kashmir were immersed in darkness since independence till now. But now after the efforts of the electricity department and of the district administration, a network of wires is being laid in these villages. Crossing all the hurdles, new transformers are being installed and connections are being given to the houses.

People living in Tethan Top Gurjar Basti of Anantnag also saw the bulbs lighting up in their homes for the first time. Now they believe that with the electricity connections handy, children will now be able to read and write under the light of a bulb. At the same time, their dependence on far-flung towns and cities for many things will reduce. The situation in this village was such that the few people who had mobile phones had to go to another city to charge them.

Not only this, till now the people in the village used to light oil lamps, candles and wood to do their chores in the darkness of the night. Along with this, for many works ranging from grinding grains, they were completely dependent on the city or on the nearby townships.

Seeing the electric bulb lighten up, the enthusiasm of the villagers was so high that people danced in front of the newly installed transformer. Offered dry fruits on the transformer in happiness and also welcomed the electricity workers.

Notably, under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) scheme, electricity is being provided to the villages in Jammu and Kashmir. This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2019.
