Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial The Kashmir Files has been in controversy ever since it hit the silver screen. The film was recently slammed by Israel’s filmmaker Nadav Lapid at the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India held in Goa.
In his speech, Lapid called The Kashmir Files a vulgar, propaganda film and the jury was disturbed and shocked by its screening at IFFI. He further continued and said the film was inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.
Nadav Lapid’s statements on The Kashmir Files created a stir on social media and Israel’s ambassador to India Naor Gilon called his statements insensitive and presumptuous. Several noted personalities and the makers of The Kashmir Files also reacted to Lapid’s statement and condemn it.
However, this is not the first time that a film which became the highest-grossing film this year and earned more than Rs 300 crore worldwide has been criticised and tagged as a propaganda film.
Here’s a list of Bollywood films that created controversy.

Starring Anupam Kher in the lead role, The Accidental Prime Minister was inspired by the book written on the former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. The film was said to be the BJP’s propaganda against the Congress as Manmohan Singh was portrayed as spineless in the film.
PM Narendra Modi
Helmed by Omung Kumar, the film starred Vivek Oberoi as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The film revolved around the political journey of PM Modi who starts off as a poor tea seller and becomes the Prime Minister of India. The film was said to be made for vote banks.
Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Thackeray was heavily trolled as it was said to be made by Shiv Sena and glorify their political party.
The 2018 Rajkumar Hirani film became a blockbuster hit. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, and Anushka Sharma, the film was accused of whitewashing Sanjay Dutt’s image.
