IPL 2023: Kieron Pollard retires from IPL, becomes Mumbai Indians batting coach

Mumbai Indians legend Kieron Pollard has announced his retirement from IPL. Kieron Pollard’s performance in the recent seasons of IPL has also been very poor. He was a complete flop last season of Indian Premiere League as he scored 144 runs at an average of 14.40.

IPL 2010 Mega Auction, Mumbai Indians bought Pollard and included him in his team. Since then, he has been associated with Nita Ambani owned franchise. For the unversed, this year Pollard had announced his retirement from T20 International as well.

Pollard, one of the legendary players of Indian Premiere League has played 189 matches in his IPL career, scoring 3412 runs, including 16 half-centuries. Pollard scored runs in IPL with an average of 28.67 and also has 69 IPL wickets in his name.

On his retirement from IPL, Pollard said that It was not the easiest decision to make as he will continue to play for a few more years, but he thinks it has been an incredible franchise that has achieved so much and it needs a change now.

Pollard further said that he cannot see himself playing against MI, as once a player gets associated with MI, he is in forever. He further added that Pollard feel extremely proud, honored and blessed to represent the biggest and most successful team in the IPL for the last 13 seasons.

He also appreciated the owners Mukesh, Nita and Akash Ambani for their tremendous love, support and respect. He remember the first meeting when they welcomed Pollard into the franchise with outstretched arms and said, ‘We are a family’.

However, Pollards good bye is just to the MI playing XI as he has taken over the duties of the batting coach of Mumbai Indians. The franchise is not yet ready to leave the West Indies all-rounder and are ready to have him in nay capacity. On the other hand AB de Villiers will also join RCB, but not as the batsmen but as the new batting coach.
