Himachal Pradesh: Cloudburst in Kullu, tourists missing, houses washed away in Choj village
A major cloudburst followed by heavy rainfall was reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu on Wednesday morning. Reports say at least five people were reported missing.
The natural calamity has trigerred floods and several houses have been washed away in Choj village in the Kullu district, reports said. Several tourists are missing and a girl who was sleeping by the roadside in Dhali died due to a landslide while two others were left injured.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to massive rainfall in the hill station accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning likely at isolated places over the state’s plains, low, and mid-hills.
As per a report in Times of India, 3 camping sites have been washed away and a guesthouse has been damaged partially. Moreover, the house, fish farm, and cowshed of Khem Raj have been washed away.
The reports further said dhabas of Lata Devi, Hira Lal, Pane Ram, and Panna Lala, and the houses of Duni Chand, Nanak Chand, and Pane Ram have been damaged.
The weather office in Shimla said that heavy rain and thunderstorms is likely to hit few places in the districts of Himachal Pradesh today including Shimla, Bilaspur, Mandi, Solan, Hamirpur, Sirmaur, and Una.
