Mamata Banerjee expands cabinet, Babul Supriyo among eight new ministers
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday included eight new ministers in her cabinet. This is the biggest reshuffle since the party has come into power in the state. Babul Supriyo, who joined TMC last year after quitting the BJP, is part of Mamata’s new cabinet.
Indicating the role of the BJP politics in West Bengal, a senior TMC MLA said that cabinet reshuffle is rare in the Mamata government. In the last 11 years, we have seen very few instances. This is a tough time and the situation is different.
The new cabinet has given more space to young faces. The MLA said that Babul Supriyo, Partha Bhowmik and Snehashish Chakraborty has been inducted into the new cabinet because Mamata wanted that the average age of the new cabinet should be younger.
Other leaders who took oath as cabinet ministers are Snehasis Chakraborty, Partha Bhowmik, Udayan Guha and Pradip Majumdar.
Tajmul Hossain and Satyajit Barman took oath as ministers of state while Birbaha Hansda and Biplab Roy Chowdhury took oath as ministers of state with independent charge.
The reshuffle comes amid the party facing hit over the arrest of its minister Partha Chatterjee in an alleged school scam case.
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Subendu Adhikari on Tuesday met the Union Home Minister Amit Shan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed Bengal politics. Union Minister assured him that CAA will be implemented after the third dose of the vaccination drive.
