Manipur: 7 students dead, more casualties feared as school bus overturns in Noney

At least seven students were killed and more casualties are feared as a school bus overturned in Noney town of Manipur on Wednesday.

As many as 20 pupils were injured. The accident took place on Old Cachar Road near Longsai area of the hill district, about 55 km from state capital Imphal.

According to information, the students of Thambalanu Higher Secondary School went on an annual school study tour to Khoupum in Noney district in two buses. The bus in which the girl students were traveling overturned after the driver lost control.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted a video of the accident, saying that he was deeply saddened to hear about the accident of a bus carrying school children on Old Cachar Road. SDRF, medical team and local MLA have reached the spot to carry out the rescue operation. The CM prayed for the safety of students on the bus. The injured students are being taken to the state capital for treatment.

However, some reports are claiming that two buses met with an accident. The death of at least 15 students is also being claimed in the accident. Many students have been seriously injured. The bus was going to Thambalanu Higher Secondary School in Yaripok. The students were going on tour towards Khaupum.
