MasterChef Australia judge and chef Jock Zonfrillo passes away at age 46
Jock Zonfrillo, judge and host on Masterchef Australia, award-winning chef and author, passed away on Sunday, April 30th, in Melbourne. His family confirmed his death on Monday morning but no cause of death was stated. Jock was the owner of a very popular and loved restaurant in Australia.
Jock’s family said in a statement, with completely shattered hearts and without knowing how can they possibly move through life without him, they were devastated to share that Jock passed away on Sunday. They added that many words can describe him and many stories can be told, but at the time they are too overwhelmed to put them into words. They also thanked the fans for their love, saying, for those who crossed his path, became his mate, or were lucky enough to be his family, keep him in their hearts when they have your next whisky.
A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed that a report will be prepared soon but the death was not a suspicious one.
MasterChef Australia’s new and 15th season was set to premiere on Monday night, but the network confirmed that the premiere will be shifted to next week. The channel took to twitter to announce this and mourn the death of Jock.
Jock was born in Glasgow in 1976 and started working in the filed of cooking and kitchens at the age of 12. He joined The Turnberry Hotel, a luxury Scottish resort, at the age of 15 where he became the youngest-ever apprentice. He worked under chef Marco Pierre White in London, and moved to Australia in 1999. He wrote his memoir that was released last year, titled ‘Last Shot’. Jock is survived by his wife, Lauren Fried, and their four children.
