This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on August 31, 2022. Ganesh Chaturthi will mark the beginning of the festivities. According to the Hindu calendar, the Ganesh Chaturthi tithi will fall between August 30 and August 31. The Tithi time will start at 3:33 pm on August 30, 2022, and end at 3:22 pm on August 31, 2022. Ganesh Chaturthi is marked by the serving of 21 pieces of Modak as part of the puja offering since Lord Ganesha is known as Modakpriya, the one who enjoys Modak. Modak is a flour dumpling filled with coconut, jaggery, nutmeg, and saffron. These all ingredients together make up the Chaturthi dessert.

Ingredients of Modak

For the filling of Modak:


1 cup grated coconut
1 cup jaggery
A pinch of nutmeg
A pinch of saffron

For the outer shell:

1 cup water
2 tsp ghee
1 cup rice flour

Modak Recipe: How to make Modak

Step 1: Heat a nonstick pan then add the grated coconut and jaggery.

Step 2: Stir them for five minutes. Then add the nutmeg and saffron and mix them well.

Step 3: Cook for another five minutes and keep aside.

Step 4: In a deep dish, boil water with ghee. Add the salt and flour. Mix well.

Step 5: Cover the pan and cook till it’s half done.

Step 6: Spread some ghee on the base of a steel bowl and while the dough is still hot, knead it well.

Step 7: Now take a little dough, roll it into a ball, flatten it well, and shape the edges into a flower pattern.

Step 8: Put a spoonful of the filling onto the dough and seal it.

Step 9: Put the dumplings in a muslin cloth and steam them for 10- 15 minutes. Serve.
