A middle-aged couple was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the bathroom of their home in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai on Wednesday, police said, Thursday.

An official said that the deceased couple—identified as Deepak Shah (42) and Reena Shah (39)— who were living in the Kukreja building in the Ghatkopar area, were found lying dead, naked, inside the bathroom of their apartment home on the fifth floor of the high-rise.

Giving details, the official said the bodies were discovered by their housemaid who entered the house with set of duplicate keys and called the relatives of the deceased, who in turn informed the police of the incident.

At around 12 noon on Wednesday, the maid rang the bell which went unanswered and then called Reena’s phone but she didn’t pick. The maid could hear the phone ringing but neither Reena, nor her husband was picking up so she decided to open the door with her duplicate keys, the official said, adding that the maid, upon discovering the horrific scene, called Deepak’s mother Kantaben, who then informed the police of the incident.

The official said that a police team along with a team of doctors was rushed to the scene where they found the couple lying naked on the bathroom floor. On examining the bodies, doctors declared both of them dead on the scene.

A case of accidental death has been registered in this regard at the Pant Nagar police station and the bodies have been sent for postmortem, he said, adding that the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

As per reports, initial investigation by the police revealed that the deceased couple were last seen near the nearby Chheda Nagar junction at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday. However, their whereabouts till 9:30 pm on Tuesday night are unknown and police are probing where the couple went during those missing six hours.
